Antique Carl Tielsch (C.T.) Altwasser Porcelain Art discount Deco Sugar Bowl and Condiment Jar with Lids, Silesia, Germany Gilding & Roses
Antique Carl Tielsch (C.T.) Altwasser Porcelain Art Deco Sugar Bowl and Condiment Jar with Lids,
The marks on these pieces indicate they are likely from the 1920's. They were made in the Altwasser Factory in Silesia, Germany which was founded by Carl Tielsch in 1845. The factory was known for its fine porcelain and created styles in the Arts & Crafts and Art Deco styles. These pieces, I think, are a bridge between the two styles.
Take a look at the fabulous handles and lid top on the sugar bowl. The pink roses seem faded and are reminiscent of Charles Rennie Macintosh's rose design. The gold gilding is thickly applied and has stayed nice throughout the years, though it is worn on the handles of the sugar bowl.
I am not sure what the taller container was meant for. I am guessing that it was a condiment or jelly dish. The sugar bowl lid has a cutout for a spoon but the taller container's lid does not. These would be lovely for holding any number of small items today.
I only found one small flea bite (tiny chip) - see the last photo of the taller container.
The taller container is 3.75 inches high and with the lid on it is 4.5" high to the top of the handle. The top diameter (without the lid on) and the base diameter are both 2.75 discount inches.
The sugar bowl is 2 1/8" high and with the lid on the height is 3 1/8". The base is approximately 3 1/8 x 2 1/2 inches. The top opening is 3 1/4" x 2 1/4" at the widest parts. The bowl is 5" across the top including the handles.
