This hat is made of traditional Yakan Seputangan hand loomed textile from the Yakan Tribe Community of Mindanao, Philippines.
Yakan weaving incorporates bold, bright and contrasting colours of brown, green, blue, orange in symmetrical patterns, inspired by the Yakan island living and the sacred Islamic geometry. Bamboo and flowers are often depicted in their designs.
The weaving tradition holds a great cultural value to the Yakan people as it is a form of artistry that their ancestors have passed on to generations. For the Yakan people, the weaving tradition has been a source of livelihood, identity discount and hope for passing on their traditions.
