I source the highest grade natural gemstones from around the globe. I receive them in their natural form. They are not cut or polished in any way before I receive them.

I carefully handcraft each gemstone with ancient cutting techniques to maintain the natural, rough-cut beauty of the larger mother stone.

There will be three or four gemstones nestled into the cage.

If you are curious about how to tell if stones are authentic, I have included pictures of the larger, mother stone so you can verify the authenticity of the stones. For example, crystals are naturally found as pointed shapes that transition from clear/white to a beautiful color and sapphires and rubies are naturally found as hexagonal shaped stones. Though these natural stones take great skill to shape into smaller gemstones, they are much more beautiful than artificial stones.

Is this real Alexandrite?

Yes! However, it is important to understand the story of Alexandrite. Alexandrite is extremely rare. This gem has been popularized by large jewelry stores though simulated (lab created) gemstones with fantastic color change properties. The reason for this is that the color changing Alexandrite that occurs naturally in nature is extremely rare, basically impossible for anyone to get at discount costs in the millions of dollars. Due to its cost, the natural stone is not used in jewelry making because cutting such an expensive stone would be too risky. This rare stone is so expensive that a gemologist, who cuts natural stones into refined jewels, won't dare touch his/her tools to the stone for fear of having a failure in that cutting process. As such, business-minded folks created simulated (fake) jewels to mimic the properties of Alexandrite, and those simulated stones provide very healthy profits. If you read my shop About section, you'll see that I only use natural stones that come directly from the earth.

Similar to sapphires and rubies, which are the same stone - just different colors, Alexandrite also comes in various forms. Alexandrite is actually Chrysoberyl. The Chrysoberyl I use is 100% from the earth, genuine Alexandrite. It is mostly on the green spectrum and because it is natural, rough cut, and not lab created, it does not have any sort of dramatic color change like you will find with simulated, fake jewels. Like any stone, it does have color variation so there will be some orange and variations of green hues, but don't expect to hold a flashlight up to it and have it magically change colors. If you are looking for that dramatic color change, then you may be more interested in one of the simulated jewels, which I do not use. However, if you want genuine Alexandrite and enjoy the interesting story of this rare stone, then the value of this jewelry can't be beat!
