Every cutting board we make is unique. You will receive the exact cutting board shown in the photos. This board was designed with smoothly rounded edges which maximize the cutting area. It is also reversible, with the same beautiful pattern on both sides.

In case you didn't know, end grain cutting boards are made by slicing boards across the grain and then turning them and gluing them together so that the end grain of the wood is on the surface of the cutting board. Therefore when a knife makes a cut, the knife blade slides between the ends of the wood fibers rather than cutting across them. This has two advantages over other cutting boards. First of all, your knives stay sharp much longer. And second, your cutting board lasts much longer and looks nicer much longer because the knife cuts hardly affect the board at all.

Of course, like any cutting board, ours have a natural finish. To protect it and keep it from being damaged by liquids, it has been seasoned so it is fully ready to use. It does require periodic application of mineral oil to keep it from drying out so as to maintain it's resistance to liquids.

One of the things we love best about our cutting boards is that they are made from recovered wood scraps. We take boards that are not usable for other projects because they are warped or uneven or have other imperfections and we work with them. We plane them, we trim them, we glue them together with other boards, we sand them. We do whatever it takes to make them usable, and in the process we bring out the natural beauty that God created them with.

You can also feel extra special about purchasing this cutting board because it was made by a missionary to Mexico as part of a special project to create a carpentry workshop in the poor neighborhoods of an area in central Mexico called the Laguna. The purpose of this workshop is so that struggling youth can learn a trade and have an opportunity to do honest work, as well as the support they need to make positive changes in their lives. This will not only help the youth, it benefits their families as well, and we believe it will actually transform the atmosphere in an entire neighborhood. The proceeds (after taking out selling fees and the cost of production) from this sale will go towards developing the youth workshop, and as soon as possible we will have items made by the youth in Mexico available.
