Early Kigu 53 series reverse carved lucite carnation jewellers Gilt loose powder compact unused with sifter, pochette. Boxed 1950s

This lovely unused 1950s powder compact is gilt with a very pretty red carnation reverse carved lucite plaque. This is framed by an engine turned basket weave pattern in jewellers gilt. It comes boxed with original sifter, and black felt pochette. In stunningly good condition, clear mirror, patented Kigu branded inner lid and sifter. All hinges and catches work well. There is an enraving "Kitty from Mag" above the inner lid, below the mirror.

The series number on the box is 53 which was called Minerva. It is 82 mm or 3 1/4 ins in diameter. From the Kigu catalogue " This 3 1/4" domed round discount compact is favoured for it's large mirror and powder capacity. It has the patented fluted Kigu construction with it's outstanding spill-proof inner lid with patented sliding catch to protect fingernails."
