This pendant features a crystal of quartz with green and red chlorite inclusions. The raw stone weighs in at 58 carats and is set in sterling silver.

Quartz is a familiar gem, known for its wide range of colors--purple amethyst, yellow citrine, and green prasiolite all being famous varieties. Quartz is also famous for often being a host to other minerals, inclusions in a stunning variety of colors and shapes. These 'inclusion quartzes' range from clear stones with specks of golden pyrite to stones turned yellow by dense needles of amphibole, and a million other variations in between.

One of the most iconic inclusions found in quartz is the mineral chlorite. Chlorite often forms on the faces of quartz crystals while they are still growing--this results in a layer of chlorite crystals that trace the former shape of the quartz crystal, a 'phantom' within the stone.

This stone has two different chlorite phantoms. One is deeper within the stone and has a rich red color, the result of oxidation after the crystals formed. There is a layer of quartz around this, and then a second phantom, this of fine green chlorite that was not oxidized. The total effect is a red crystal with a green tip, making for a striking gemstone. Also unlike many inclusion quartzes offered on the market, this stone has its original crystal faces and discount has not been repolished.
