Alexis Price is a new contemporary artist that hails from Philadelphia, PA and received her BA in Modern Dance from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC in 2006. Working as a professional tap dancer with dance luminaries including Michelle Dorrance and Savion Glover, she also became a self-taught painter, and in 2013 she retired from performing to focus solely on art. Using oils, she began creating largely autobiographical portraits that built on her physical mode of self-expression to explore the feminine form and its underlying essence. Known for her sexually charged imagery that combines elements from the animal and plant kingdom with references to the worlds of rock-n-roll and the occult, her work transcends binary concepts of gender and morality to dig at deeper truths about self and healing. She has an extensive national solo and group exhibition history and has been featured in numerous publications. Price is currently living, painting and discount raising her daughter in Northern Maine.
