Solid brass antique ink well.
There was a time when no gentleman's desk would be complete without an ornate ink well. This gorgeous example is the highly collectable larger size inkwell. It could also be used as a desk tidy or candleholder.
The hinge on the lid works perfectly, with no play. The brass shows sign of polishing, but is in good condition.
The square base is 13 cm ( 5 in).
