Vintage USS Nereus AS 17 Submarine Tender Heavy Brass Plaque, US Navy Ship Plaque, United State Navy Memorabilia, Submarine Memorabilia. A heavy (ALMOST 3 pounds) brass plaque commemorating the USS NEREUS AS-17 with the Latin motto FACIENDUM FACIEMUS. MEASUREMENTS: 5.75 inches At Highest Point x ABOUT 5.5 inches At Widest x ABOUT .5 inches Deep The plaque is in good shape/condition. Has some wear and tear but noting that affects this beautiful and unique piece. I did notice some tarnishing on the front/kinda turning green in spots, nothing too horrible but there. Back is stained/dirty looking and looks a little more used. USS Nereus (AS-17) was a submarine tender in service discount with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1971. The ship was named for (in Greek Mythology) Nereus - the eldest son of Pontus and Gaia. Namesake: Nereus Builder: Mare Island Navy Yard Laid down: 12 Oct 1943 Launched: 12 Feb 1945 Commissioned: 27 Oct 1945 Decommissioned: 27 Oct 1971 Fate: Scrapped 2012.
