Product code: Antique/Vintage Indian discount Rare Rabari Shawl/Ludi. Hand Woven Tie Die Heavy Wool.

Antique/Vintage Rare at least 50 years old in fantastic condition, made by the Rabari Tribe of Kutch. Woven Tie-Dyed and Embroidered Shawl or Ludi.
I bought this some 10 years ago in Kutch and was so delighted to be able to own one of these fabulous long fabrics.
Natural wools are used in Rabari weaving often camel and goat hair. Waft and Wrap Weave. The cloth is pinched and tie-dyed to make clusters of red dots. It is made of two sectioning sewn together down the centre. There is only one fault, I have found, which is a crude stick repair which could easily be put right by unpicking the red stick and darning.
The shawls like this worn by the women are often the most decorated piece of their plain attire.
Customs play an important role in dress code, women must follow Laj or conventional modesty and cover her face before strangers and certain members of her husbands family.
I could go on for hours as to me a very special piece of Indian History.
Large at 7' x 9" By 2' x 11", or 237cm x 110cm. With tassles and extra 4 3/4" each end, 12cm. Weighing before wrapping 1200 grams. Made of two sections sewn down the middle.
The Rabari's can be, if you are very lucky, found travelling with the whole family with all their possessions on camels on the plains.
I have seen.
