Inuktitut /English School Reader IGLOOLIK by Igloolik School Children Rachel Erkloo Pat George Eskimo discount Book Indigenous First Nations Language

This is a very rare treasure. It is a written in both the indigenous Inuit language, called "Eskimo" at the time, now known as Inuktitut, and English. It is called IGLOOLIK and the stories and illustrations are by the First Nations Igloolik school children. Their teacher was Pat George, and Rachel Erkloo wrote the Inuktitut translation. It was the published by the Education Division of the Department discount of Northern Affairs, Ottawa, in 1962 and used as part of their curriculum. This particular copy was used at the Sir Alexander Mackenzie School in Inuvik, N.W.T.

It has a yellow card stock cover with a brown title in both English and Inuktitut, and a line drawn map of Igloolik by 12 year old Ordu that spans both front and back covers. The inside pages are lighter yellow with brown print.

I cannot overstate how wonderful this booklet is. The children's drawings of their daily lives is so poignant.

It is in very good condition. There is some wear and discoloration to the covers and page edges. The pages are very clean and clear. There is a school stamp inside the front cover. The binding staples are sound. Please see the photos.
