An Original Quality 19th Century iron bound bentwood grain or corn measure branded on the panel "VR" over the number "185" with a crown above the "VR. This refers to the Customs and Excise during the reign of Queen Victoria.
There is also some lettering on the side which I cannot determine.
The base is stamped "IMPERIAL MEASURE"
There is some inactive woodworm around the wood and Photo 6 shows a little of the bentwood missing near the iron on the base. The photo highlights this but photo 7 shows a more realistic size rather than blown up. The length and width of the missing wood at it's maximum points is 70mm x 5mm.
There are a couple of splits, clearly shown in photos but this is a solid piece and further decay would not be expected.
Very useful storage, and would look wonderful displayed with dried flowers.
Lovely patina
Height 10" (25.5cm)
Diameter 8.75" (22cm)
