When you hold one of these pens in your hand, you are not just holding a pen - you are holding a piece of ancient Irish history.
In ancient times, the island of Ireland was covered with Oak trees. As time went on and these trees fell, they were consumed by bogs and marsh land. Whilst other trees crumbled and rotted, the oak endured - and the damp conditions of the bog preserved it, whilst also staining it a deep black. Hence, these oak trees are hundreds - perhaps even thousands - of years old. Today, many pieces of bog oak are still being discovered around Ireland, giving us valuable insights into the ancient geography and history of the island of Ireland. The exact age of these pens is unknown, but it is estimated to be hundreds of years old.
These pens are made from a piece of genuine Irish bog oak, and come packed in a velvet-lined presentation case. These pens are perfect for special occasions such as signing a wedding register or birth certificate.
These pens use a standard cross-style refill. To remove, simply pull the two halves of the pen apart and screw the refill out. Take care when reassembling the pen to not fracture the wood.
