Vintage Art Deco Powder and Rouge discount Compact, Gold Tone Filigree, Small, Foster Jewelry Company

This piece was conceived and created in the heart of the Art Deco period by an American jewelry company--a true slice of history of days gone by.

The top of the case of this petite (1-3/4" across) round compact is adorned with gold tone (believed to be brass) filigree flowers and geometric shapes, around the edge can be seen embossed flowers, and the bottom is black enamel. Inside are two compartments, separated by a metal mirror. One side holds a sifter, powder puff and has face powder residue. When the metal mirror is opened, a dark pink rouge and powder puff are revealed. The two hinges and the two clasps work perfectly. When you take the powder puff and sifter out, you'll find, in very tiny print, the patent number (1973433 ), that was issued in September 1934, set to discount expire in 1951, along with a hexagonal representation of the logo of F J Co (Foster Jewelry Co.).

The rouge is old, and we do not recommend its use.

It is in excellent used vintage condition, the bottom shows a little wear and a little discoloration on sides of powder compartment.
