I personally collect these stones from the desert and have an emotional connection to them. In the entire world, Saffordites are only found in certain desert areas around Safford, Graham County, Arizona. When you purchase one of my stones, you can be sure that stone has been loved and appreciated from the time it was found on the desert soil until it reaches your hands.
*****What are Saffordites?*****
There are differing opinions on the origin of these small black stones. Some believe they are weathered obsidian, others, like myself, believe they are tektites. Formed from the impact of a celestial body with the earth. That impact vaporized both the terrestrial and extraterrestrial material, flinging it into the atmosphere where it then rained back to earth creating a glassy stone. Whether tektite or an discount ancient obsidian pseudo-tektite, Saffordites radiate an undeniable power.
Saffordites exhibit all the metaphysical traits of other tektites. Metaphysically Saffordites are said to be the most powerful gemstones yet discovered, even more powerful than Moldavites.
Hunting these simple black stones has become a loving obsession for myself and my family. The peace of the desert and beautiful sunsets, bring us out hunting evening after evening. Even an encounter with an angry rattlesnake, hasn't changed that. I just exhibit more caution as I do my Saffordite dance (the sun is at your back, walking sideways or forward looking in your shadow) around the desert hoping to spot the velvet blackness of another cherished stone.
