ABOUT PINOLITE

Extremely rare crystal consisting of dolomite, graphite and magnesite, with traces of pyrite, quartz, titanite, zircon and apatite. It gets its name due to the pine kernel like appearance of the white magnesite deposits. Also known as Pinolith.

It was previously thought that there was only one source in the world (in Austria) until a deposit of Pinolite was discovered in British Columbia, Canada in 2015. This Canadian Pinolite has been dated by the University of BC as being over 540 million years old.

Canadian Pinolite is notable for its unusual coloring: as well as black and white, it has beautiful yellows and oranges due to the presence of pyrite. The pattern of the different minerals in the rock almost gives the appearance of fossilized flowers.

Pinolite is believed to be a gemstone of optimism and balance, providing a soothing, calming effect, improving self-esteem while establishing equilibrium between emotions and intellect. Pinolite is thought to promote imagination and creativity by banishing negativity and encouraging clarity of mind for positive visualization.
