12-095 discount pit fired ceramic vessel

discount Wheel-thrown, burnished (polished with a stone), & pit fired ceramic vessel.

Approximately 5 1/2" high x 8 1/2" diameter

This piece was pit fired in a hole dug in the sand at Dillon Beach. Sawdust, salt, copper carbonate, the ceramic pieces, cow patties, and wood were layered and then lit on fire. The fire roared dramatically for about 45 minutes. The pieces were left in the pit as long as the coals continued to smolder to allow colors and patterns to develop.

Because this piece contains copper and is somewhat porous, it should not be used for food or liquids.
