New Stock! Black Felt Cavalier Hat - Brooch - Chinchilla discount Feather Hatband

Although we call this a cavalier hat because of its connection to the Musketeers in the 17th century, it was actually made popular during the 16th century by the Lansquenets, German mercenary soldiers, who decorated them with cuts and slashes, braids and feathers....lots of feathers! Of course, it was worn much earlier and in other countries as well, but not as discount flamboyantly.

This Listing is for a wide brim felt hat, pinned up on the side with a bronze penannular circle brooch. It has an attached "chinchilla" feathered hat band. The hatband is not removable. It is held on with waterproof adhesive.

The hat crown is about 4” high and the brim is 4” wide. Black only! These hats are unlined.

The brass penannular circle brooch is 1 3/4" wide and has a 2 1/4" tang. The hatband is approx. 1/2" wide.


The wool felt body will be blocked and sized when finished.

NOTICE: Please measure around your forehead and send us that measurement so we can block the hat especially for you. Below is a guideline for ordering the size felt blank we will use in making your hat. Order a 2X if your head measures larger than 24" and we will stretch it to fit.

S - fits up to 21 1/2" head
M - fits up to 22 1/2" head
L - fits up to 23" head
XL - fits up to 23 1/2" head
2X - fits up to 24" head
3X - fits up to 24 5/8" head

ATTENTION: We highly recommend a Hat Jack for any of your wool felt hats to keep them from shrinking as well as maintaining their proper shape. When the sides of a hat are "cocked" up, it has a tendency to become misshaped when in storage due to moisture in the atmosphere as well as perspiration.
